I came home today and much to my elation, there was a lovely care package waiting for me. I know I’ve written about this before, but I LOVE getting surprise packages, always brings me back to being a kid on Christmas morning, staring at this years haul, mind racing with all the possibilities of the mysteries contained within. Like any self respecting frenzied gift recipient, I bowled the family out of the way and tore into the box.
Contained within were two sleeves of special edition Nike 20XI Golf Balls and a pair of Special Edition
Nike Lunar Control Golf Shoes.
Nike Lunar Control Golf Shoe
Developed with insights from Nike Golf athlete Paul Casey, the Lunar Control golf shoe delivers the optimal combination of stability and comfort in the lightest-weight performance shoe on Tour.
Benefits
- Flywire construction for ultra-lightweight support and comfort. Comprised of ultra-thin, ultra-strong nylon fibers that wrap mid-foot to hold it in place during motion whilst eliminating slippage without additional weight.
- Springy Lunarlon cushioning for soft yet supportive shock absorption. Located in the heel of the shoe, it provides lightweight, responsive cushioning and a low to the ground feel for comfort that lasts 18 holes and beyond! (thank you Buzz Lightyear! 🙂 )
- Next-generation Nike Power Platform outsole for enhanced flexibility and natural motion while enforcing stability and balance. This feature helps keep the foot firmly planted, evenly distributing weight for more power and a smooth transfer from your swings beginning to end.
- Waterproof performance leather by Sadesa
Aside from the special coloring to commemorate the Masters, the special edition Lunar Control golf shoes are the same shoes that people can buy retail. If you’re interested in picking up a special edition pair, they will be available in limited quantities on nikestore.com the week of the Masters.
Nike 20XI Golf Ball
The newest premium golf ball to be released by Nike. The innovative technology in the golf ball will dramatically enhance the performance of golfers around the world. The new Nike 20XI ball features a combination of proprietary technology never before seen in the golf industry, and is the result of four years of collaborative research and development between Nike Golf’s golf ball engineers and a team of material and science experts at DuPont.
The technology replaces conventional rubber cores with a new resin material that’s a highly neutralized polymer faster and lighter than rubber engineered to produce longer distance and more controlled shots.
Nike’s team of engineers discovered that using resin core technology in the Nike 20XI accomplishes three critical performance components that every golfer desires in a golf ball: More distance off the tee; Straight ball flight; Increased control around the greens.
Faster Ball Speed Equals More Distance
- Advancement in proprietary resin core chemistry delivers faster ball speed.
- Internal tests with Nike Golf tour athletes have shown an average of 2-3 mph increase in ball speed.
- Every 1 mph increase equates to 2-3 yards carry distance.
Highest Levels of MOI Provides Longer, Straighter Ball Flight
- Lighter core and heavier outer layers result in perimeter weighting.
- High MOI assists in reducing driver spin and maintains spin beyond apex to maintain carry and control.
- After apex, the higher MOI assists in maintaining spin an average of 100-200 RPM.
- The Nike 20XI has the highest levels of MOI in a golf ball to date.
Steeper Spin Slope Equals More Distance Off the Tee; More Control Around the Green
- Less spin off the driver, more off the wedge.
- Overall design and MOI assist in reducing driver spin at impact on average of 100 – 200 RPM over prior Nike ball technology.
- Softer cover materials allow for greater short iron spin and control.
The special edition 20XI golf ball has a green swoosh to commemorate the Masters and they’ll be giving them away to some lucky facebook followers during the week of the tournament. If you want your chance to play the ball before it’s released to the public, follow Nike on Facebook and stay tuned!
