Good thing he wasn’t Paparezzi

During the third round of the Tour Championship, Anthony Kim hits an errant drive off the 9th tee and domes a spectator.  Ouch…  The video is below, notice how the ball makes contact with the victim’s head and bounces upwards in a high arch.  The reciepent, a 48 yr old man named David Whitfield was reported to have a “crater-like abrasion” on his forehead above his right eye.  Wouldn’t it be more accurate to describe it as a “crater-like dent?” :)  AK offered this man his clubs, bag, and even his belt buckle as an apology.  The poor man was so dazed by the event that he didn’t take him up on the offer, and settled for a golfball with a hastily scribbled “sorry.”  Regrettibly it was not the ball that made contact, but a backup.  Be on the lookout for a huge influx of “sorry” golfballs on Ebay!
Good thing for Mr. Kim that Whitfield wasn’t a Paparazzi…  Those slimeballs would kill for a situation like this.

Enjoy!

Austad’s Golf

Posted by Dave

Stumbled upon these folks today, looks like they’ve got some good prices on gear.  What caught my eye is that they’re selling my driver for $169 bucks!  I paid $250 for this thing at the beginning of the year and thought I was getting a killer deal!  Here’s the picture below.

Nike Sumo Driver

By the way, I absolutely love this driver!  It has a different sound than your used to, but you learn to love it! :)

So if your in the market for a new driver, I recommend it, check the link below to check out their site.

and that phrase came from a woman!  Not just any woman, a woman who’s husband is an AVID golfer!  Woohoo!!  There’s hope for them yet. :)

Check out this article written Cynthia Haines over at HealthCentral.com

Golf: The Perfect Sport

In this article she discusses, how golf can be a wonderful exercise routine if done properly.  Ofcourse “done properly” entails walking all 18, carrying your bag and laying off the booze.  Nothing we don’t already know, I just thought it was a boost to hear a woman admit it! :)

Seriously, she mentions some good pointers and facts that are worth a read.

Like I said last time, sorry I’ve been so aloof, just working on something big that’s consuming alot of my time.

See ya!

Golfnow Purchased by Comcast

Posted by Dave

Very late in reporting, but I had heard rumors about this and I just wanted to shout to the world, “I’m not crazy!” :)

Golfnow.com(who I use quite often) has been purchased by Comcast for the sum of $40 mil.  They presently sell tee times to 1.5 million customers at around 1,500 locations nationwide.

Unlike Comcasts horrible Fandango purchase (Fancast anyone?) this is a slick move on their part.  All they need to do is link Golfnow up with Golfchannel and it’s a win.  With the merging of the two companies, golfnow and golfchannel both stand to see increased web traffic and with luck increased revenue.

Since Golfchannel is located in Orlando, not 10 minutes from my home, I can only hope that more and more central Florida golf courses hop on the Golfnow.com choo-choo train and in turn offering cheaper tee times for everyone’s favorite Orlando Golf Blogger! :)

Get ready to PAAARRRRTTTTTTTTYY!!

Coming real soon (Sept 11th-12th), Shaq’s Mama Said Knock You Out Charity Golf Tournament.  This golf tournament was started a few years back.

Shaq and Lucille’s golf tournament and gala benefit the Odessa Chambliss Quality of Life Fund ((www.ocqualityoflifefund.com), which was established in honor of Shaq’s grandmother and Lucille’s mother, who worked for more than 16 years as a nurse and passed away in 1996. The name for the fund comes from the O’Neal family, who said, “At the time of her death we learned that it is not the quantity of years one lives, but the quality of life that is important.” The fund honors the lifetime accomplishments of Odessa Chambliss by funding nursing and educational scholarships at colleges and universities, including the University of Central Florida and Valencia Community College. Donations also fund cancer research.

Shaq and Lucille will be joined by friends including NBA legends named among the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History – Charles Barkley and Julius “Dr. J” Erving — as well as former Orlando Magic star and Atlanta Hawks radio announcer Dennis Scott. Other shining luminaries include Alonzo Mourning, Shaq’s teammate on the 2006 NBA Champion Miami Heat; Matt Geiger, former Philadelphia 76er NBA Star; Andia Winslow, LPGA Golfer; and Sam Jones and Jamal Wilkes, both retired NBA stars.

The two-day event, themed “A Bright White Night” begins Thursday evening, Sept. 11, with a 6:30 p.m. sponsors-only cocktail reception at the hotel. On Friday, Sept. 12th, the day begins at sunrise with last-minute golf registration, a 7 a.m. continental breakfast, an exciting 8 a.m. golf tournament at the championship 18-hole Shingle Creek Golf Club, followed by an awards luncheon at the Club at 1 p.m.

The event is taking place at the Rosen Shingle Creek and you too can take part for the low, low price of $500 per person…..

$500 bucks a person seems pretty expensive to this low budget golfer..  I’m guessing that this event is primarily attended by celebs and their crew.  It would be totally awesome if it was a lot more reasonable and those who might actually get a kick out of meeting some of those in attendance, were able to.

Alas, tis not to be…

I can at least do my part and share the message with those with the financial fortitude to attend such an event.

Tiger Woods Expecting Baby #2

Posted by Dave

Well, to be more specific, I suppose his wife Elin is expecting baby #2…  :)

It’s been a rough and frustrating time for Tiger, since his reconstructive knee surgery that put him out for the rest of the year, “The injury has been a blessing and a disappointment” Woods Said.

“Elin is feeling great and we are both thrilled, while my injury has been disappointing and frustrating, it has allowed me to spend a lot of time watching Sam grow. I can’t begin to tell you how rewarding it is being a dad and spending time with her and Elin.”

Congratz Tiger!  I recommend spending alot of time in Dubai during the first trimester! :)
