There’s a charity golf event taking place April 19th, 2009 to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network.  It’s taking place out at Hawk’s Landing and the start time is 1:00pm.

This is a great story about a miracle child named Emma.  What I love about this is the fact that a family is trying to do what it can to show it’s appreciation for this fine organization.  See below:

Meet Emma…

Emma was born on January, 25^th 2005 and immediately something was not right.

Emma was transported to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children for further testing. Doctors discovered that Emma had a heart defect called Transposition of the Great Vessels. Emma’s pulmonary artery and aorta were switched and she was not receiving oxygen-rich blood; her heart circulated oxygen-depleted blood through her body. To correct the problems Emma would require multiple open-heart surgeries over a number of years.

At one week old Emma had a shunt implanted in to her heart which was just the size of her tiny fist.

In July 2005, at six months old, Emma had her second surgery called the Glenn procedure to begin the process of redirecting the blood flow through her heart.

In June 2008, at 3 ½ years old, Emma had her third surgery called the Rastelli. This was to be Emma’s final surgery but there were complications during the procedure and in recovery. Doctors discovered that Emma’s body was rejecting Heparin. Blood test showed that Emma has what is called Heparin Induced Thrombocytopenia which has only been found in a handful of children. Emma also had an aortic tear which had to be repaired with a fourth open-heart surgery in July 2008.

After 37 days in the hospital Emma was finally well enough to go home with her parents, Chuck and Shannon along with little brother Brandon.

Today Emma is attending pre-school, dancing, singing, swimming and enjoying all things little girls love to do.

Thanks to the staff at Arnold Palmer Hospital and the support of the Children’s Miracle Network Emma has the world at her fingertips.
