John Duval, owner and writer of intothegrain.com, started the new monthly panel where he’ll be posing questions to various members of the golf media surround the current hot buttons on tour as well as other aspects of the sport.

This month, for the inaugural panel, John asked me to participate. I was joined by three other industry professionals;

Brendon Elliott – Class “A” PGA Professional, golf instructor and owner of Little Linksters. Brendon is a good friend of mine and it was a pleasure joining him on this panel.

Dave Andrews - former television news reporter, avid fan of the Duramed Futures Tour author of a book called Pops and Sunshine and founder of Future Stars Foundation. I had the opportunity to meet Dave earlier this year at his annual Future Stars Foundation Pro-am.

Robb Pritts – member of the Golf Writers Association of America, The National Golf Foundation, is a frequent radio show guest and author of the blog Rocket’s Ramble. Rob is also President of Back 9 Promotions. I met Robb at the 2010 PGA Merchandise Show, but I’ve yet to test his mettle on the golf course! :)

The questions for this months discussion panel are below..

  • The rules of golf have been a media focus recently with Dustin Johnson, Jim Furyk and Juli Inkster being involved with high-profile rules infractions. Do you think the governing bodies are too harsh with some of the penalties? What rule(s) do you think should be changed?
  • What do you think is the biggest story in the world of golf this year? Why?
  • Getting back to the rules of golf – In the last 20 years we have seen huge leaps in equipment technology, with balls going further and straighter, clubs hitting it higher and farther with more spin, etc. Despite these advances the average golfer still shoots around 100, just like they did a century ago. Why do you think this is?

You can see my answers as well as the answers given by the other members of the panel over at intothegrain.com.

Feel free to comment on one or all of the questions posed, I’d love to hear your take.

TaylorMade Golf and President & CEO Mark King to introduce new product via webcast

Online Interactive Launch Presentation scheduled for September 9, 2010 at 12:00 pm PDT

TaylorMade Golf Company, the industry leader in product innovation, and company President & CEO Mark King will introduce a new product via worldwide webcast on Thursday, September 9 at 12 p.m. Pacific time.

This introduction format promises to deliver a unique and memorable experience for consumers; it enables their participation in a universal curtain-pull on a remarkable new TaylorMade product like never before.

The passion and inspiration associated with an initial product launch has long been held in reserve for the company’s sales force. This fall, a global online audience will share in the anticipation and excitement.

“We think what we show will instantly become the most sought-after product in the marketplace,” said Bob Maggiore, TaylorMade’s Vice President of Brand and Marketing.

Watching the webcast is easy, simply log onto www.taylormadegolf.com on September 9 and load the interactive video presentation, which is scheduled to last approximately 10 minutes.

Following the launch, the video footage will remain available on TaylorMade Golf’s global website for additional viewing.

What do you think it’ll be? I’m betting it’ll be a new TaylorMade driver.

Children’s Miracle Network Classic is looking for “a few good caddies” to tote the bag for amateur players participating in the Pro-am event.

If you’re available between Wednesday, November 10th – Friday, November 12th, give them a call at (407) 938-3881 and be sure to let them know OGB sent ya! :) Prior experience is not required, nor is knowledge of the Disney’s Palm or Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course.

You’ll be caddying in a group consisting of two PGA tour professionals and two amateurs. Caddies are selected from a pool and are on a first come first serve basis with experience and golf background taken into consideration.

This is a great opportunity to get free access to the 2010 Children’s Miracle Network Classic, to meet some PGA Tour professionals and to get a first hand experience on what it’s like to be livin’ the dream.

See below for full details..

Children’s Miracle Network saves the lives of children by raising funds and awareness for children’s hospitals like Winnie Palmer (where the OGB Jr. #2 and #3 were born) and foundations throughout North America.

Children’s Miracle Network is a non-profit organization that raises funds for more than 170 children’s hospitals. Countless individuals, organizations and media partners unite with Children’s Miracle Network hospitals to help sick and injured kids in local communities. Donations to Children’s Miracle Network create miracles by funding medical care, research and education that saves and improves the lives of 17 million children each year.

To ensure children’s hospitals have the resources they need, Children’s Miracle Network’s partners conduct thousands of special events and grassroots fundraisers year-round. Corporate partners sell Miracle Balloons, radio and television stations broadcast stories of medical miracles, and college students hold Dance Marathons—just a few of the programs generating millions of dollars each year to provide the life-saving care and crucial services kids need.

Through its continuous efforts to help kids, Children’s Miracle Network has raised more than $3.4 billion to date, most of which is donated a dollar or two at a time by caring individuals.

I’m going to try and make the event, not sure if I’ll be able to swing it though, having the new baby and all..

Let me know if you’re already signed up, planning to sign up or if you’ve done this in years past. I’m curious what the experience is like.
