The Golf Channel Amateur Tour

I thought this was pretty cool, definitely worth checking out.

Golf Channel Amateur Tour

The Golf Channel offers the opportunity for players from every skill level to compete in golf tournaments with people of similar skill level.

Here’s the different groups you can compete in

Championship (3.9 or less)
Palmer (4.0-7.9)
Hogan (8.0-11.9)
Sarazen (12.0-15.9)
Jones (16.0-19.9)
Snead (20.0 and above)

It cost $199 to sign up. It looks like the tournaments take place 4-5 times a month. They give you a whole bunch of goodies for signing up:
– Year membership to the tour
– Ability to play in other tour & national events
– Golf Channel Game Tracker Pro subscription (a pretty cool online tool that keeps track of your rounds, not only allows hit/miss of fairways and greens, now it’s which direction <too short, left, right, etc..>, your own official USGA handicap calculation and multiround summary.)
– USGA Handicap Index
– $25 Gift Certificate from a major golf retailer
– Entry into Pro-Am Sweepstakes
-Membership Welcome Package (shirt, hat, etc…)

Top finishers in each flight, per event, will receive non-cash prizes. Each event will also have an optional skins match.

I think this is a pretty cool thing, a GREAT opportunity for networking and to see how well you play against those of similar skill level. You can join at anytime throughout the tour and the last *open* game is September 27th.
